As technology transforms how people live and work, we investigate how human capabilities can continue to evolve. We study the skills, mindsets and capacities people need to navigate and thrive in a changing world, and how emerging technologies can open new possibilities for learning and growth across the lifespan.
Research Lab for Human and Organisational Thriving
Our mission
To become the world’s leading hub for advancing the science of how individuals and organisations can thrive amid continuous technological change.
Why THRIVE?
Hear from the Lab's leaders and researchers as they share why understanding human and organizational thriving matters more than ever, the opportunities and challenges AI presents for how we learn, work, and relate to one another, and what we hope to achieve through our research.
Research Domains
Our research focuses on three fundamental domains of human life: how people learn, work and relate.
We examine the profound impact of intelligent technologies on work and careers. We explore how individuals and organisations can harness these technologies to foster innovation, enable career development and reinvention, and create work that is both economically sustainable and psychologically meaningful.
We investigate what it takes to sustain meaningful human relationships as technology transforms the ways we communicate, connect and collaborate. We explore how emerging technologies can help people bridge differences, and build stronger relationships and collaboration across social, cultural and geographic boundaries.
Activities
Beginning in 2027, we will host the THRIVE Research Meeting, an annual gathering that brings together leading scholars from psychology, sociology, economics, management, and related disciplines studying topics related to human and organizational thriving. The meeting provides a platform for advancing rigorous multidisciplinary research, intellectual exchange, and global collaboration around the core question of how people and organizations can develop the capabilities and resources to learn, work, and relate better in a rapidly changing world.
The inaugural THRIVE Research Meeting will take place on July 27, 2027 in London.
The THRIVE Series features regular events with leading thinkers and practitioners. Open to practitioners and the general public, the series brings together fresh ideas and diverse perspectives on how to advance human and organizational thriving.
Opportunities
The PhD Research Award supports promising doctoral students around the world whose research advances our understanding of human and organisational thriving.
PhD students in the later stages of their doctoral studies are invited to submit a research proposal outlining their current or future research agenda. Applications will be evaluated by a panel of scholars, comprising primarily the Lab’s affiliated faculty and HUMII’s advisory board members, based on the quality, potential impact and alignment of the proposed research with the Lab’s mission.
More information in December 2026The Lab offers a two-year research position starting in September 2027 for an early-career scholar interested in advancing research on human and organisational thriving in a rapidly changing world. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Professor Winnie Jiang while engaging with the broader community of the Lab’s affiliated faculty and collaborators. The fellowship provides an opportunity to develop and pursue an ambitious research agenda, collaborate on new research projects, and participate actively in the intellectual life and activities of the Lab.
More information in January 2027We partner with organisations across the learning and development ecosystem – including governments, schools, companies and vocational and professional training institutions – to translate research into practical solutions that empower people and organisations to thrive.
Our partners provide real-world settings in which we can develop, test and refine research-informed ideas and interventions. In turn, we work closely with them to generate insights and solutions that address real challenges facing their people and organisations.
If your team or organisation is interested in becoming a partner and working with us to turn rigorous research into meaningful impact, please contact us at [email protected].
